Meet Theresa Colston: Account Coordinator

In the latest edition of “Meet the Mulberries,” Theresa Colston, Account Coordinator in our Chicago office, talks developing skills in and outside the office and wishes for future international trips:

What is your favorite activity to do in your city?

Chicago is a sprawling city – and very flat. I love walking long distances and discovering the neighborhoods, small businesses and parks that fill the city. I wouldn’t recommend long walks in the winter, however. Walking or biking along the Lakefront Trail that follows the coast of Lake Michigan is also beautiful!

What non-work-related skills would you like to develop through MasterClass?

If I were to pick just one skill to master, it would be language learning. I have always been envious of people who speak more than two languages. Although my Chinese language skills are adequate, I would love to finally reach fluency and learn other languages like Spanish.

What work platforms and tools can you not survive without?

It’s hard to choose from all the platforms I use on a daily basis at Mulberry, but I think I rely on Canva above all others. Canva helps me design unique social media graphics for various clients without a graphic design background. The tool allows me to come up with new and visually appealing graphics quickly and easily.

What’s been your favorite place to travel and where do you want to go next?

I absolutely loved travelling to China. I had the opportunity to travel to several cities there and got a taste of the country’s vastness and diversity. There are still many places in China I still want to cover, however. I hope to return and visit Hong Kong and Chengdu, where I can see the pandas. Besides returning to China, I hope to travel to South America soon! I would love to go hiking in Peru and visit Machu Picchu.

Describe one of your top work highlights to date.

Working on the launch of GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council™ (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, has been a highlight of my Mulberry experience. The accreditation was launched shortly after COVID-19 began to verify that facilities of all types follow a strict cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention program. To create widespread awareness of the program among facility managers, executives and the public, we launched a media relations program that achieved more than 1,800 pieces of coverage by the end of 2020.

If you had to delete all but three apps from your phone, which would you keep?

Spotify to listen to music and my favorite podcasts, Transit Stop to know when the Chicago trains are coming, and the weather app since the forecast changes at a moment’s notice in Chicago.
